All the unspoken words dancing round in my head
Every meal spent in silence over something I said
All the racing around for the life that we sought
All the worries we’ve had over what we had not
All the days that flew by that weren’t spent with a child
And the times that I might have been less than mild
Any day that concludes and we’re not sharing wine.
Is just a waste of time

Any music I make that’s not from the heart
Any lyric I pen that won’t add to the art
All the self-serving movements to which I belonged
All the anger obsessing on how I was wronged
Lusting after the things that I thought would be cool
Thinking back on the times when I’ve been such a fool
Getting ahead at work is all very fine
It’s just a waste of time

All the joy in this world that couldn’t be shared
All the triumphs and sorrows when nobody cared
All the speeches I make to impress from afar
But I don’t tell a friend how important they are
All the walls we put up to avoid being known
And then we’re amazed to find out we’re alone
All the show and pretense meant to distance the grime
Is just a waste of time

Every gesture I’ve made that didn’t spread love
Every moment not praising our Lord up above
Any thought not in awe of this world where we live
All the times that I felt I had nothing to give
And the depth of my fears I neglected to face
To avoid stepping out of my comfortable space
Collecting, protecting the things I call “mine”
Is just a waste of time
